As what I have promised yesterday, I will give you a story about Hall.
I live in a hall named TEMASEK Hall, often abbreviated as TH. NUS has 6 Halls of Residence inside the KENT RIDGE Campus, TH is one of them. (Tommorow I'll tell you about NUS Campus) My hall is famous for its sports activities.
Every year, NUS have a yearly event named Inter Hall Games (IHG). Hall has to play against other Hall in several sports events. The winner of most games named as the IHG winner. TH has participated in 19 IHGs so far, and win 16 of it. What a record!
Video Production Unit, VPU, the CCA I joined in, have the job to record the event and archive the tape for next year team, so the junior can see and learn from the past, and also get the spirit of sportsmanship.
Next, in Hall, we have some friendship activities. All of this activities have to be recorded as the database about Hall life. First, the biggest event "Dinner and Dance" (DnD), where the Hall's King and Queen are selected. Before DnD, we have Bash, the nomination of Hall's King and Queen. Then we have Block Theme Night, the inter block cooking competition. Then Freshmen Orientation Project, two weeks of games and fun. Formal Dinner, not an usual dinner. And still a lot of non-routine activities.
And "RAG and FLAG". RAG is an Inter Hall competition. Each hall have to make a moveable giant object on a truck from useless things such as can and bottle. FLAG is a social event when all Hall residents go to the road and ask charity from people.
You see that there's a lot of things happen in the hall.
TH Anthem
We are the Temasek family
Together we're making history
Together we're reaching for the sky
No river too deep nor mountain high
Stand tall for Temasek Hall
Full of the spirit that binds us all
As one big family
There's no other place that we rather be
We raise our voices high in song
Temasek is where we all belong
Proud of this Hall we called our own
Some called it a hostel we called it home
I like the TH Anthem. There's a funny story about this song.
On the Orientation week, we learn this song. I'm so excited when hearing this song. Later, when I was doing RAG, I sing this song again and again until my friends sitting beside me asked me to change the song. I sing the Anthem again, but change the singing style. The original one was march beat, while I sing it as a jazz swing song. You know what my friends said then? "You'd better join NUS Choir". And I did. Haha.
The part of the song I like most is the last sentence, "Some called it a hostel we called it home." So touching.
I think that's enough for today. Forgive my broken English, and keep waiting for my next post. Bye!
